As an admin in the C-Suite, it's important to look professional. We are representing our executives, not only internally to our peers, but also externally to other organizations with whom our executive works.
We are often the first person seen by outside agencies when they visit our exec so looking good is often crucial, even in a business casual environment. Now this doesn't mean that we have to become Andy after her makeover in The Devil Wears Prada but even casual business wear can be boosted with the right accessories.
If you are like me, budget can pose a problem when trying to look more put together. The following are a few shopping tips that have proven helpful for me and I hope that they will be beneficial for you as well.
Shop When On Sale
I know this may sound like a no-brainer but a lot of people just like to shop whenever they have time or when the mood strikes or even worse, on impulse. If you are shopping on a budget the best thing to do is find out when your favorite department store is having a sale. Yes, you read that correctly, department store. If you shop during sale time only, you can get some great items for a budget friendly price.
Shop Clearance
This might sound the same as shopping on sale, above, but it is not. Clearance shopping is not shopping when on sale, it is shopping the clearance section only regardless whether the store is having a sale or not. However, if you can combine the two and do a shearance shop (clearance plus sale) you can really get a lot of bang for your money. I actually got a Michael Kors dress for under $30 using the shearance method. Yes, that's right. Kors for under $30.
Shop Budget Stores
Do not be embarrassed by shopping stores that are known for low cost items. Walmart has some great staple pieces to add to your wardrobe. The trick here is to stick to fabric that does not pill or it's best to stick to the color black. Black clothing in general will give you a clothing face lift because it automatically adds sophistication and polish, even with a cheaper fabric.
